Ice rink

Postby Butterflys3 » Mon Aug 05, 2019 2:18 pm

I went to school in Hastings in the early 80s. I remember going ice skating with friends. The ice rink was along the sea front. Is it still there? Anyone remember it? Any pics?

With respect, the simplest research on Google will tell you that the ice rink is long closed - a lot of other info and photos on there as well.

The space is now, I think, occupied by a skateboard whatever for the kids.

I think it was a swimming pool before the ice rink. I do remember another old small swimming pool in the same area, it looked like it had been closed for a long time. I think it had a see through roof.

The swimming pool at White Rock were two . One was the large and one was the small pool to the left and the right of the current entrance. The Ice Rink would have been after my time in the town

The baths were closed in 1978 and the building was turned into an ice rink and roller skating venue, but the building was eventually closed in 1997.

I thought there was a Turkish Baths down below as well, it all must have been really something in its day.

Not sure about the Turkish Baths, but http://hastingsonlinetimes.co.uk/arts-c ... nd-present mentions them and/or a steam room. Also says many ice skates found.

There were also some (maybe 'Russian' baths) in West Hill Rd - https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/10 ... UncadLsZhE

There was a sauna there sometime around late 1970s or early 80s.

Many decades ago there were various steam or Turkish baths there and there is at least one photograph on the Old Postcard site, showing a woman in a bath. There was also a Rurkish bath in St Leonards, near the old college and again I think that is mentioned on this discussion site

I have found photos on the site, one of a foam bath, one of a seaweed bath and a couple of exterior shots. For some reason I cannot attach them to this message. That of course might be my lack of competence. However they are on the photo site.

You have to go down below the dialogue box to 'Attachments' then click 'addfiles' (select the relevant images) then 'Place inline'.
You can 'Preview' it first to ensure it's the right image.

To attach them to that previous message you have to 'edit' it (pencil icon) and go to 'Attachments' and add them, as explained above.
