Fisherman's museum

Postby ColinL » Fri Sep 13, 2019 12:02 am

Just a little plug for the Fisherman's museum that is a small but very important venue about one aspect of Hastings history.

It is very easy to forget that the industry was a key to the role of the town for several centuries. Many fishermen form crews of the lifeboat that saves lives and vessels in distress. Fishermen did that informally before the RNLI was established. In the days before the creation of tarmac roads goods coming in and out of the town were mainly transported by sea to London and other major cities. It has a memorial book recording the loss of lives of towns folk who perished at sea.

In addition although it is hard to imagine, it also hosted a thriving ship building industry on the shore.

If you have never been, then take a browse and learn a little more about our town
