Parking, poor value for money

Postby G. Kinch » Wed Sep 20, 2006 7:31 pm

Does anyone else get fed up with the size of the parking spaces in the town center car parks. They are much to narrow, to pay GBP1.00+ an hour for a parking space that invariably results in a dent in the side of my car is infuriating in the extreme.
It's the same at supermarket car parks, but at least there I don't have to pay to receive the damage.

Oh yes, appreciate this one.

I still think the best car park is out the back of ESK and slightly cheeper at 90p per hour. Still a rip off I know but doesn't get quite so busy so you should find a spacious space somewhere. Cameras on all floors too so should be fairly secure.

According to my Wife, the best free space to park is Safeways (or whatever it's called now). I always feel slightly guilty parking there if I haven't purchased something, also I've noticed recently a man with a clipboard taking notes of car registrations presumeably the shop has the intention of cracking down on people who use it as an all day car park????

However, back to the original whinge ( I'm starting to feel like a grumpy old man (although I'm not old, honestly)). I've just aquired another dent in the side of my car. This time in the Castle hill car park which in my opinion has the narrowest spaces in the universe. If I park my hatchback between two average sized accurately parked cars it leaves about fourteen inches on both sides. I am a slim fit man and I still have difficultly getting in and out of the car without my door making contact with the other car_ _ _Paying over a pound an hour for these parking spaces is a rip off_ _ __ _ _ >:( >:(

Not sure if Mr. R.H. ( Man who sorts the parking in hastings) reads these threads, or anyone else in local government_ _ _

_ _ __ _ _..Feeling better now, thanks.

A few years back, they used to have someone working in some box, who had control of the exit gates and you had to show him a receipt from that day to prove you've brought something from there.

Received a reply very quickly, well done that Dept.

"Dear Mr K, thank you for your e-mail the contents of which are noted. I confirm that the size of standard car parking bay are 2.4 x 4.8 meters.I have instructed my Maintenance Technician to check all bays in Castle Hill Car Park and he confirms that all bays comply with these standards. I am sorry you find the size restricting, but I would mention that this is the first record of any such complaints from the general public."

So, there is a standard for such things. (must remember to e-mail back and ask who sets the standard).

They have checked the sizes! (I'm amazed, organized and measured in one working day, probably looked at drawings)

Sorry I find the size restricting (????)

I'm the first one to complain. (must remember to get a life). :(

I do think it's a good idea as it would stop workers leaving their cars in the streets and getting the train.
Residents will be able to park in their street near to their home (hopefully)
The only thing is, who's going to pay for the dumped cars that clog up our streets?
