Explosions before Dawn

anyone else hear the great explosions at around 4am today?
They do occur occasionally in the Hastings area and sound to emanate from around the direction of St. Leonards / Pier region
They can occur at anytime of day or night but those in the early hours today were extremely loud and unwarranted in my opinion.

There were about five of these ear-splitting explosions and must be for some reason I don't know what !! 8|

I think it is the life guard station.

I think they use it to see if the vessel in distress can hear it.

Anything that annoys the seagulls and wakes the lazy types is fine with me.
