Forgive me for butting in on the conversation.
Does anyone remember the big lion that used to lie in the garden of the Welcome Stranger pub in Sedlescome Road North? I think it was probably made of fibreglass.
I spent many a happy hour playing on and around that as a kid with my cousins in the late 70's/early 80's and I wondered if anyone knew anything about it, where it came from and where it went etc? and why on earth was it there?

The name Pied Piper doesn't ring any bells with me. I can't find any mention of it on David Russell's website either.

Name rings a bell. Somewhere around town centre I think.
Re: Pub memories
The Pied Piper was renamed The Manor, but I can't remember exactly when, guessing at the 80's/90's. The Manor has now closed and was at the junction of St Mary's Road and Manor Road

Yeah thanks everyone. I did remember the said landlord his wife and devil son relocated to the duke of Wellington in islington. But yes jules it was on the corner of manor road It's amazing how very few people remember it and that there is NO mention of it anywhere It was my local when I was 17 as I lived two doors away.

My first on my own was on a bike ride to Rye and back. Stopped at Robin Hood at Icklesham and remember that I asked for 'a pint of beer' rather than lager or bitter etc.........and they still served me. The good old days
