1899 Hastings Map
I have created a section for my 1899 Hastings Map with the same click/drag and zoom functionality as our modern day map.
Hope you find it as interesting as I do

Re: 1899 Hastings Map
Excellent Geoff, really interesting. Any chance of extending it wee bit to the west so as I can see my house?

That's what I thought Scotsbob, we are not quite on the map either. Really interesting though.
Re: 1899 Hastings Map
It is really good Geoff. Thank you very much.
Re: 1899 Hastings Map
Fine historic map - like the colour coded areas - don't know how you found it.
will probably buy it soon and I know there is an O.S. for 1873 but not sure where to that it as a whole map.
Infact how many maps are there for Hastings produced by O.S. at what time intervals and could you please reference these on the map section even if they are not available?
Maps are like women - better when you have a few to compare!!

Re: 1899 Hastings Map
Cracking stuff!
Just a shame it doesn't go a bit further west and north, would have been interesting to see how Hollington and Baldslow was laid out back in those days. But i'm guessing that's beyond your control.
Nice find Richard, I come across some old Sussex maps on the internet a while back, was interesting to see the change in routes and how far in the sea used to come.

Re: 1899 Hastings Map
Glad this is proving popular.
I purchased the original 1899 map at aution for a tidy sum a few years ago. It's been behind glass gracing my lounge wall ever since. I find it so interesting I just had to put it on the website for everyone to see.
Shame it doesn't cover a little bit more (my property isn't on there either) but still a fascinating blast from the past.
According to the records, the first proper map of Hastings was completed in 1851 by William Gant (borough surveyor). This was created in order to implement the public health improvements for the area. Now that would be the ultimate map to own!
