nicest area

Which in everyone's opinions are the nicest areas to live in Hastings? We're thinking of moving there and so far have only done research via the internet, not actual visits. We want to be fairly close to town. What estates etc? Please reply.

St Helens, or anywhere near Alexandra Park.. Also, there are areas near the seafront.. Church Rd and Chapel Park Rd have lots of flats, but are near Warrior Square Station, and a 10/15 min walk to town, or 5/10 to the pier. People complain about Gensing area, and there is a problem with bedsits, due to it being so near the DSS, but it's near Mercatoria/Burton St Leonards, which is stooped in History, as it was the original St Leonard way back when_ _ _

Estates?? Where are you coming from?? It's weird, but there are nice areas right next door to bad areas, as Hastings is so big.. it's pot luck, really.. are you renting? Do that for a bit, and find your bearings.. If worst comes to worse, at least you can always move again!!

Hi Cat- thanks for replying. We've been looking at houses on-line and areas like Clive Vale and West Hill keep coming up. Of course when you don't live in an area you don't really know! We will probably rent first. We're moving from Norfolk.

What a load of crap. I've lived in St Leonards now for 6 months and have found it to be nothing but friendly, safe and a far healthier place to be than London. Try talking the area up and being positive. There are far worst places on Earth to be!!!

Hi all

I've lived in central St Leonards (supposedly the worst bit) for four years. There's the occassional drunk but never spotted the druggers, pushers and pimps that John mentions. I have to agree with the majority and say there's far worse places to live. It puzzles me why John would stay here seven years if he's so against the place?

nice to hear something positive! it always surprises me when people slag off the area they've lived in for years - why not just move? Anyhow, coming to Hastings next week for a holiday and a scout round so I can give my opinion then.

I moved to hasting from london with my family when I was 16 and then moved back to london on my own aged 19. but once I moved away i just missed the calm relaxed envioment in the town so I moved back to St leonards when I was 21, and have lived there ever since (14 years). I have to say that I have only ever found that the people that have lived in Hastings and never moved out of the town seem to think the town has a bad reputation. I have never found it to be anything but great and its improving all the time. I basically feel that anytime that anything bad does happen like someone being assulted or what ever it is put all over the local paper, this is simply because it is so out of the norm where in citys it is a daily event and does not even make the papers. I still have friends and family in london and they love coming to the town and its only going to get better with the investment coming in to the town and all that it brings better roads better rail and better communications. Hastings is a great place to live and is a great place to bring up a family.
