Areas to avoid??

Postby RobDavis » Wed Nov 22, 2006 4:26 pm

Hi,

I know this is very subjective, but in most towns\cities there are areas you just don't consider moving into. I assume St Leonards has them too, so could somebody let me know what they think? We're aiming to try and move from the east midlands in the spring. We have very fond memories of Hove between 1983 and 1988, before it went self-conscious and trendy, and quite frankly are looking for something similar to that - quirky, individual, arty and not London By The Sea.

My wife and I are late 50's, from an entertainment background, so we're not looking for something THAT quiet and secluded - we'd like a bit of LIFE around, but on the other hand we're not that wild at the thought of having to pick our way through too many syringes. ;)

Thanks

Rob Davis

Hi Rob

It all depends what you are used to in the East Midlands. Everybody seems to have different ideas about what is considered bad.

I would personally avoid the estate in Hollington but others on here say that it's not that bad. Kenilworth and Stockleigh Road aren't all that great, but again, it depends what you're used to at the moment.

Lots of people dismiss warrior square and central st leonards but i've never had a problem and it's nice and close to all amenities.

There's a lot worst places to live than even the lowest rated streets in St Leonards!

Thanks for the reply Marina. I have to say, I wouldn't recommend my part of the East Midlands to anybody. It's such a shame, wonderful countryside in the Peak District, but the people in the surrounding area are_ _ __ _ _.. :( That's my experience anyway. After 35 years living down south, the culture shock has been huge and the gap unbridgeable.

Rob, this area is not for you, trust me, it's full of asylum seekers druggies, dole scroungers, chavs, cretins and problem familys from_ _ _.you've guessed it, London. Best to avoid I think. St leonards was once a nice place to live, but that was a very, very long time ago. Eastbourne is better.

Not overly impressed with Eastbourne personally. I guess if you're in your seventies and going out means the band stand on the seafront then it's fine but i'd stick with St Leonards. Plenty of entertainment in nearby Hastings and a load of clubs to join for all interests. Check http://www.1066online.com/HASTINGS-MAIN ... -index.htm

Just my own opinion, maybe Rob has lived in both.

Hmmm, chavs are just about all over the place now, I went over to Eastbourne a few weeks back and the pier was full of 'bredwins' :P and after the sun went down the town centre was taken over by these wannabe gansta's, so Eastbourne isn't all what it seems! Plus I am sure chavs are gonna take over the world some day

Haha, that sounds about right Marina, I don't know how they will survive with the amount of chavs over there now, bless em' :)

My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance

Rob and his partner are in there late 50's?
Yes, eastbourne does have a lot of chavs, but what town does'nt these days. These gansta wannabes are taking over everywhere!! but Eastbourne is cleaner, has better shops and a better nightlife. Have you been to the funkton rooms yet?
