trouble is, it's not the immigrants or asylum seekers fault. They are just like us, only wanting to do the best for themselves and their families. The problem arises when the government want to bring down the price of labour. Maggies policy was to increase unemployment which in turn stimulated the labour market forcing wages down. The labour policy is to bring in people from poor countries who are prepared to do the nastiest jobs, factory jobs, sevice industry jobs, manufacturing jobs etc. for the minimum wage. It's the government who's to blame not the immigrants.

i agree_ _ _but the point i am trying to make is, that blaming whoever does not give a working family man a house when a outsider strolls into the country and jumps the queue_ _ _

i am not against controlled immigration and certainly not racist , but after working in London and Bradford, and then coming to Hastings which has few immigrants compared to London and Bradford i can see if immigration took off in Hastings , the overall support would be poor and i could see trouble brewing.

The BNP have everyright to stand and have their oponions, just as the Muslim councils, however i can see only BNP support increasing if immigration grew in what is a 'old london style white town' like Hastings!

Fascists in Hastings

Fernando Bauza wrote:
I am appalled that the BNP is fieldling candidates for the Coouncil elections next May 4th.

The BNP may now try to present itself as a respectable political party. In fact they are a fascist party. Currently they seek to attract votes on the basis of racism, Islamophobia, anti-semitism, homophobia and the vilification of refugees and asylum seekers. But fascists also stand for the expulsion of Black and Asian people from this country, the destruction of the trade unions and the elimination of basic democratic rights.

I welcome Michael Foster's statement in the Observer last Friday and I believe that this dangerous situation requires a new and united response from all those dedicated to freedom and democracy. Now is the time for all of us to combine our forces and unite in a broad and common front against this common threat.

I call, as a matter of the greatest urgency, for all democratic poliltical partiesto unite against the alarming rise in racism and fascism in Hastings. On May 4th. I urge all people in Tressel and Hollington wards to use their votes to eradicate this odious faction

We can't stop the BNP standing at elections, but we can direct people's attention to their Wikipedia entry, which should put a lot of people off.

The BNP tries to present itself as a party of patriots, but they are actually nazi traitors spitting on the graves of our war dead. Their founder, John Tyndall, once said "Mein Kampf is my bible." Nick Griffin has denied the holocaust, called World War 2 bomber crews "Mass murderers," refered to the Ghurkers as "Mercenaries," said that mixed race children are "tragedies" and stated that the BNP would allow the immigration of people of "Closely related Europan stock." This would make Britain a magnet for every neo-nazi thug in Europe as well as the BNP's friends in American neo-nazi organsiations. We would merely be swapping one type of immigraton for another much nastier sort.

Our population has increased by about 20% in the last 60 years, from about 50 million to about 60 million. The population of the world as a whole has more than doubled in this period, so we're not doing too badly.

As for culture, every culture must evolve, otherwise it will die. We live in a modern world where transport is easy, radio, television and the internet allow us to explore almost any culture and foreign cultures will spread here whether we like it or not. Remember, even Rock and Roll is a foreign culture: it came here from America!

Let us get a few things straight. Asylum seekers are prohibited from working. European nationals from the former eastern Europe states are restricted from obtaining certain benefits for a set period of time and only become entitled if they HAVE been employed for a period of 12 months. Theycan not both be scroungers and "taking all our jobs".

Once a person has been granted refugee status the same rules on homelessness apply equally to indigenous and other applicants.

Under the UN convention for refugees we as all other countries who sign up have a duty to provide reasonable care including providing housing - which will cease once their status is approved.

If a local authority says it is only housing immigrants and asylum seekers it will be breaking the law and can be challeneged by the person who is refused housing

Well Said Terry and Gerry!! And sorry if that sounds like a cross between a rather agreeable 1970s BBC sitcom based in Purley and an extremely agreeable brand of ice cream based in America_ _ _

In fact, Gerry, I think I knew you many years ago when you were Gerald and we were both members of an organisation which met at the top of Wellington Square..

Anyway, on the subject of the BNP (if we must discuss that vile organisation here..) can I relate a slightly funny story? Some years ago I was at a classic car rally - not anywhere near Hastings as it goes. A couple of people I know to be BNP activists (they write to the local paper regularly as such..) were looking at the cars on display and, standing by a Morris Minor, started spouting on about how it was British through and through, and a wonderful example of what British minds and skills could produce_ _ _ They REALLY didn't like it when someone pointed out that the Minor's designer was a chap called Alex Issigonis; not exactly a British name!! That's because he was born in what is now part of Turkey and came to Britain as an immigrant!!
There is a serious point here of course - many immigrants actually bring skills which are invaluable to the host country_ _ _

Would not trust anyone of them. Have met many people in the main parties, even Labour and Lib Dem who privately hold very basic views and beliefs when it comes to racism, sexism, homophobia and disabilities. Very Basic. and quite predatory when it comes to females including children.. BNP just say things out openly. But don't think tha the Lib Dem, Con ro Labourite at the side of you doesn't think the same quietly. or have never had their basic values and views challenged. Amazing what they say when they think you may share those viewpoints or think they are in private with just their PR with them. Most parties need to talk to their own first.

There's may be a grain of truth in what you say JBk, some policitions will say anything to get a vote, but that doesn't make it ok.

If you watched Nick Griffin's recent appearance on Question time, you'd have seen him claiming that he'd changed his mind about certain issues. There's nothing to stop him or any other policition changing it back again.

In the end it all comes down to who you trust and politics has always been a filthy business.

The simple fact is that the BNP has hatred at its very core. Hatred is its very reason for existance. It cannot be justified and cannot be trusted. As the grandson of a German Jew, I know only too well where this sort of thinking leads and if enough people are stupid enough to beleive that it couldn't happen here, IT PROBABLY WILL!
