The rich are capable of avoiding tax altogether, using the right advice, this is what is causing the problem, not the lowering of 50 to 45%

I don't really see a huge difference between the Labour party or the Conservatives. The Labour party has moved so far to the right that it is now simply an alternative Conservative party. It may be the lesser evil, but it is still an evil. Both parties have cheerfully attempted to demonise the unemployed, even though they are both fully aware that there are nowhere near enough jobs to go around, largely due to several decades of policy failure by both parties.

It really is a bit much to label the Labour party as liars when the Conservative claim that they have created thousands of private sector jobs is clearly a lie. The majority of those jobs were public sector jobs which have now been transferred to the private sector. They are not new jobs. The definition of politicians as professional liars has some validity on both sides.

To create enough jobs for everyone, we must create about 500 new jobs every single day for around 15 years. Neither party has the faintest idea how to accomplish that, yet both parties continue to lash out viscously at unemployed people, often to appeal to a largely misinformed and greedy public who merely want to pocket other people's benefit entitlements in the form of tax cuts. This is dishonest in the extreme.

According to Duncan-Smith, the unemployed spend all day in the pub, smoke like chimneys, have wide screen TVs, cars and Christ knows what else. It seems to me that if the unemployed can manage to do all that on the pittance they are paid, then it is the unemployed who should be running the economy. They clearly have a much better grasp of how to stretch the available funds than any politician in any party.

I think Liebour stems from the Tory Blair nickname.
Or was it Tony Bliar?

reasons for Labour's last defeat:

1. The Iraq War
2. Economic meltdown
3. MP's Expense 'fiddling'
4. Gordon Brown dithering over when to hold an Election.
5. Lies about Immigration (they quoted 50,000 when the numbers were nearer 500,000 at one stage)

Now we have the 'ConDem' in power, pruning everything and clearly going too far. ConDem have also messed with Education (Cuts and Exams) and are unlikely to get in power again.

Duncan Smith is behind plans to strip benefits from people who "refuse to take up Job Opportunities"
This is a sop to the general public as we know because the truth is that nobody from the Job Centre will come along with a job offer and the gov't has now interpreted their new rules to impose U.S. style "Sanctions" on those who cannot jump through all the deliberately complex requirements of the new system.

So you are quite right Terry it stinks of deceit and trickery while the main issues remain untackled and damaging to Society as a whole.
The Public Sector are regarded as the next level up from the unemployed and the Private Sector revered as the 'Holy Grail' while the (latter) manage to avoid paying their full share of Company Tax and make cosy arrangements to pay what they agree with the Inland Revenue (over luncheon).

The culture of deceit within the media and politics has has indeed reached a disgraceful level, but many people are prepared to accept all the lies because it fits in with their own preconceived prejudices and resentments and because they think there's a possibility that they may be able to pocket tax cuts paid for by benefit cuts. Other people take an "I don't care, I'm all right Jack attitude" which is also fairly obnoxious and may well turn out to be misplaced. When the boss has dozens of desperate people knocking on his door every day, offering to do their job for less money, work longer hours and with fewer perks, they might be forced to reconsider. Many people may soon discover their secure jobs are nowhere near as safe as they thought they were.

I have to confess to being quietly amused a few months ago when a friend who was always grumbling about "lazy dole scroungers" was made redundant and is still unable to find another job. He's now grumbling that the system is tilted against the newly unemployed who don't know how to jump through all the hoops. He's also getting fed up by seeing job vacancies that say "The successful applicant will currently be working." Having to sell the car he can no longer afford was yet another blow and one that lowers his chances of finding work. Now he has to move home as well to escape the sanction against benefit claimants with a spare room. Despite selling the car, he is finding it extremely difficult to save up the money to make moving possible, let alone pay any deposit that might be required for a new flat.

I'm also amused when people rabbit on about being taxpayers. We're all taxpayers, even the unemployed and the street sleepers. Income tax only accounts for 28% of government income. The rest comes from a variety of sources, including taxes like VAT that everyone has to pay.

In America several states have recently licensed road vehicles that drive themselves. At the moment they are required to have a qualified driver behind the wheel to take over if anything goes wrong, but once the road haulage industry gets hold of this technology, the pressure to do away with that requirement will increase dramatically, putting countless truck drivers out of work. There is a new wave of automation coming which will affect many people who previously believed their jobs could never be done by a machine. I wonder what government policy will be if unemployment reaches ten million or more? Genocide?

"We are all equal but some are more equal than others"
George Orwell - 'Animal Farm'
I agree we are all in the same boat but we are not all the same.
However we are vulnerable to many streams of thought aimed at capturing our attention and some of it is subliminal and some of it is overt.
