Wish I could help, but I can only see the unemployment situation getting worse unless you want to be a bailiff or debt collector. With ATM machines replacing bank staff, self service checkouts replacing supermarket staff and there are even slot/vending machines replacing barmaids in some pubs, although not to my knowledge in Hastings_ _ _ Yet!

The government seems determined to demonize the unemployed at every opportunity, even though they are fully aware there are nowhere near enough jobs to go around. Anyone thinking their job is secure had better start looking over their shoulder. It won't be long before your boss has dozens of people banging on his door every day, offering to do your job for less money.

And what will happen if you refuse to take up work as a debt collector, bailiff, stripper or topless barmaid? Will your benefit be stopped?

Paul have you considered maybe getting a government grant and starting up your own little business perhaps. There are grants you can get if you are unemployed for the startup of small businesses.

Hi Paul i agree with Marinecourtgirl selfemployed is the best, your age wont come into it.I am 50 years old ,a freelance curtainmaker etc.

I have had trouble at times getting enough work, but if you dig around the places outside of the town.I was a single mum went to a shop and offered my services ,i have not looked back.I notice at bannatyne a van with rent a hubby they have a web site what a good idea.

I have manage to run a web site for GBP10 a month ,it has not given me work but has given me a platform to sell myself.Maybe a grant to get you a moble if your not?You have to put yourself in front of shops, maybe pubs and offer your services of anything they wont delivering.

Maybe antique shops, look at battle and the surrounding area. You go out slightly out of Hastings, then spending you earnings in the town will give others jobs.It is hard at the moment but you have to stay positive . Where theres a will theres away.IF YOU DONT ASK YOU DONT GET. Good Luck Paul
