No permits for new residents??!

I need to verify this after what felt like a council experience of the 3rd kind: Is it a truth universally acknowledged that not all residents can obtain a resident parking permit? Maybe someone was just in a bit of a mood and fobbed me off because they could? I'm moving to White Rock and have had it suggested I could pull the plug, deflate and roll up my car & take it home for the night! Or put it into one of the downtown car parks.

I've been so looking forward to making Hastings my new home but wasn't expecting this.

Thanks. I've got that. I was trying to arrange for the space in time for my move but of course that needs proof of residence I can't generate until I've moved in, made the changes and had the updated documents back in the post -that means around 2 weeks of finding somewhere to keep the car. So I called the council and it's the council person that told me this. I'll ring Ringo instead. Am registered with them anyway.

Just thought I'd share for the benefit of other new arrivals that there really is a 4 month waiting list for spaces in the White Rock area. I had to pay the council nearly £200 for a 3 month permit for use of any/all of the municipal carparks - in hopes of finding a space within walking distance of my new home. Every night I look down at a row of empty resident spaces outside my house... Me? Bitter?

I just refuse to drive, it's not my idea of fun these days.
Perhaps in the wide open spaces of somewhere like America, but Britain is too choked up with vehicles.

Sorry if people don't seem that sympathetic! There are many good things about Hastings but the way the Council manages the area is not one of them. Parking controls are very anti-visitor and charges too high. Hence, in Brighton the streets are packed with tourists, in Hastings not quite to the same level ..

I would consider £200 for a three-month permit a terrible waste of money. There are other ways like parking near a friend's house or in an area without restrictions - and just walking a bit further home.

I sold my car after coming to Hastings. I fortunately didn't absolutely need it and can do everything I want to on foot .. and sometimes walk to Bexhill. Much fitter as a result!

Have you tried parking in the streets at the back of and around Warrior Square quite a few of those are free parking. I used to park there when I worked in St Leonards.

Moonjiver, I must say I find parking in Brighton awful and very expensive. I always get the train to avoid finding parking, so am surprised to find someone saying it's good.

St Margaret's Road and Cambridge Road have to be the obvious suggestions for free parking near to White Rock. Correct me if i'm wrong but I don't think they are subject to the 2 hour limit.

No, I didn't say parking in Brighton was good, I said it was better! I went down there in the summer and my friend found a space, not too expensive, for an hour or two and close to the Komedia theatre. Maybe we were just lucky.

If you are willing to walk a bit, there are spaces away from the town centre. It just seems that in Hastings perfectly usable spaces, which wouldn't cause any obstruction, have the obsessive yellow lines. I think Hastings Council are more fixed on making money out of motorists.
