Residential Care Homes

Can anyone recommend any good residential care homes in hastings or bexhill. and how to go about finding a place. Do I need to go to Social Services? Thankyou

There is a Care Quality Commission who are responsible for inspection of homes who will possibly have reports on their website. Unfortunately these inspection regimes normally look to see if there are procedures and practices in place to ensure that a place is of good standard and not what actually happens. That can be different. You may also do your own visit and ask to look around and if possible speak to residents and their families if any are there during your visit. Each situation it will depend on what you require for the person that you are seeking to place and what they would want from their new home..

The information that Gerry gives is spot on. Social Services will be able to give you a list of suitable homes for your requirements. My advice is look at a few homes, get a feel of the place,perhaps arrange a visit for lunch, do the residents and staff look happy?, ask as many questions as possible and most importantly just turn up for your initial visit so you see the 'real' care provided. Hopefully you will know when you have found the right one! Best of luck with your search.

many thanks for info. Have now decided to get a personal alarm system, with pendant. Seen many providers online but not sure which one to use, as cannot see many reviews. Have been viewing "Telecare24.co.uk" Has anyone heard of this and do they know of similar providers that are any good and trustworthy. Thankyou

Had to look into this for my mother who broke her hip recently and we decided to get her "tagged".
After enquiring at her local doctor's surgery I was advised by the receptionist to get in touch with the Social Services (of the nearest town) who do their own alarm with pendant and have a competitive rate.
We went with their system and this is paid by monthly direct debit.
It works via a simple box attached to her telephone unit.

Also useful as she can use it to alert them to anyone she feels unhappy about, i.e. strangers calling, or just if she is feeling unwell.
You will be advised to nominate a couple of neighbours/friends who live locally and can be alerted, in the first instance, by the Care Call Provider.

My stepfather is in Caslemaine , Avondale Road , he is a Alzheimers Sufferer , amazing place . Food good and a very caring team of people , follow Gerrys advice

My other half is a RGN and she has worked at various homes and by and large they are the same,long hrs unsocial hrs few if any breaks and taking their staff for granted.
Laureston care home is the worse I have heard about,no breaks even though the staff work 12 hr shifts,as for the care commision they are not worth jack,the care that the residents receive is very dependent on who the manager is,its a national scandal.

The Elderly are very much swept under the table because they are a drain on resources and many of them are decaying mentally and nobody really cares.

personally I think most elderly people have a negative image of Care Homes for many reasons and would much rather be cared for at home for as long as humanly possible.
