Re: What kinds of new cafes and restaurants would you like t
Harris's, Porters, Two Bulls Steak House, The little Moroccan place on the High St, Lathems_ _ _..for fish and chips Maggies and you can't beat the seafood in The Anchor. That's just for starters I could name more but you said Hastings and I'm thinking of St Leonards_ _ _Mamma Putts and Bay Spice for example. For takeaways the Chinese on Mount Road is very good and our local chippy_ _ _The Lighthouse ain't to bad either_ _ _..You will be telling me that theres no good pubs down here next.
Re: What kinds of new cafes and restaurants would you like t
Harris's - fine by me but my friends dislike it. (on the plus side it's been there for a few years and has stood the test of time)
Porters - OK and staff good (also been around for some time)
Two Bulls ("comme ci comme ca" many previous owners and reincarnations)
Little Moroccan Place - Good but closed Sundays (fairly recent venue)
Maggies - have to book but good and famous !!
The Anchor - Yes!! according to friends but can't remember eating there.
As for St Leo's - what about 'Love Cafe and St Clement's - my friends love them !!
Don't let's get started on pubs - I remember a long and winding flowery poem that took in all the pubs of Hastings and St. Leo's and we don't want a repeat of that do we !!

Agree that "Love cafe" is chic/trendy and the food is freshly prepared to order.
Would go again !!
Retro gear in the shops nearby and it seems to be a place to attract the older eccentrics who appear a little cut off from reality, existing in their own 'bubble'.
St. Clements at the top of Norman Road has a good reputation and was set up by London chefs but I have never been - said to be better in the evening?

Re: What kinds of new cafes and restaurants would you like t
I came across this thread by chance - fascinating and some very true advice given here! I'm no expert but I can tell you that this is indeed a very fickle area of business activity, many places come and gone in Hastings. In the Old Town there are a number of good and popular eating places, some of them not expensive. In St Leonards there are numerous good daytime cafes and just a couple of expensive but nice restaurants open in the evening. In the town centre, plenty of decent cafes but the evenings are dead - only pubs and pretty grim fast-food outlets!
So it's very patchy and you need to very careful and find out why people favour certain areas if they want to eat out in the evening. Personally I'd love to see a cheapish but good evening eating place in St Leonards - stews, vegetarian, that sort of thing, but it would be a new idea in St L. and building the clentele up until it was profitable might take yonks.
Why don't you consider trying out your ideas in different places, ask a cafe if they'd stay open a couple of evenings and let you do a special menu? The Roomz possibly but a cafe near the seafront would be a far better location.
Silly ideas maybe .. but perhaps you get the drift. Good luck.
