No body forces you to live anywhere that you dont want to . Try living in london for 40 years mate , you will have something to complain about !

I totally agree about London - try living in that pit and you'll soon miss the community atmosphere and , well just about everything about Hastings.. Fi

Re: what i think of my home town!!
Hastings I have renamed it HISTORY BY THE SEA.
It is a such a beautiful town which has its problems because of the road links again being smashed, but maybe a blessing we must protect the history of this town. we have lost some big old houses on the ridge .We do need better jobs for our youngsters to keep them here.Maybe we need to be talking about what we have .Open your eyes and gasp at the sights you see ,,every where you walk so much to see.On the ridge look at the town so stunning.WE HAVE HISTORY THE TOWN SHOULD BE CROWING ABOUT.
GK i loved your post ,for all you negitive people I am sorry for you ,but maybe you should open you eyes to what is around you.

Re: what i think of my home town!!
I can't help being amused by the people who slag Hastings off and say it's not what it used to be: A more deluded and ignorant bunch of T#@+USD is hard to imagine.
Bring back the good old days? Do they mean the days when the lack of clean drinking water in the town led to cholera outbreaks and the average life expectancy was 38? Do they want to see the return of grinding poverty, slums and children with rags tied around their feet because their parents couldn't afford shoes? Was it the good old days when desperate single mothers murdered their offspring at birth in an attempt to escape the stigma caused by pretentious Victorian attitudes? Was it the good old days when domestic servants were routinely raped by the male members of the master's family. Was it the good old days when a young widow in the old town starved to death rather than resort to prostitution. Was it the good old days when a Hastings police officer dragged a drunken woman into the Hastings Arms pub and openly had sex with her on a table? Do these people want to see prostitutes on every street corner again? THIS WAS HOW HASTINGS USED TO BE, TAKE OFF THE ROSE COLOURED GLASSES AND TAKE A LOOK AT OUR REAL HISTORY! It isn't all about 1066 and smugglers.
Almost every other house in All Saint's Street has been a pub or beer house at some time in its life. Some of the properties that are now worth a fortune were once home to several pitifully poor families with eleven people living in just two rooms!
Things have moved on in Hastings, but the snobs remain. Happy to spit on people less fortunate, but appalled if asked to pay a little more tax so that something can be done to improve things. If anything's wrong with the town it's that we have far too many smug, toffee nosed, middle class, Tarquin and Felicity types who moved here after seeing the town on some property porn show on channel 4.
The town isn't perfect, show me a town that is. We have large, dilapidated buildings that have sat empty and derelict for decades, while their wealthy property speculating owners write them off as a tax loss and line their overstuffed pockets with taxpayer's cash. These are the REAL scroungers in our society, not the unemployed. We have an inept council that makes decisions few people agree with, leading to many accusations of corruption. Is there anyone in Hastings who doesn't quite sincerely believe that brown paper envelopes stuffed with cash are passed around amongst council members as a matter of routine? We have many other problems.
But how come I can walk from one end of the town to the other at any time of day or night without getting caught up in the supposed violence some people are so terrified of? Yes I've been offered drugs from time to time, but a simple "No thanks" is all that needs to be said in such circumstances.
If you constantly criticise other people and wander around with shotguns in your eyes, expect trouble wherever you go. Just be polite, it costs nothing and will open many a door.
The one thing Hastings has in abundance is character. If some way could be found to bottle it, we could all be rich.

Absolute snob and narrow minded individual. Can you move a little further away from Hastings, maybe Tunbridge Wells?

Re: what i think of my home town!!
How long do you have to live in Hastings to be considered a true HASTINGER ? (_ _ _.is that the correct terminology?)
It must be a little unrealistic to expect everyone to be on your own personal wavelength or level of ability and therein lies the challenge - to communicate on all levels as an equal without prejudice !!

Re: what i think of my home town!!
Hastings has been a traditional 'working class' day tripping venue for many years now
No doubt the great 'Victorian Wealthy' would have been very snobbish and disliked a gradual creeping change of atmosphere from "their" genteel seaside retreat, whose only real employment was a small fishing village
The Victorians kicked off the 'holiday home' expansion many years ago (eagerly escaping from unhealthy overcrowded towns like London) _ _ _
But the railways soon invaded with their influx of day trippers who contributed little to the local economy
Yes !! it now has the typical problems seen in many places, even now we see it in the expensive former 'villages' of London where coffee chain shops are multiplying and robbing the life and soul of the community because they are the only ones that can afford the high business rates/rents
Yes !! There are a lot of 'displaced' people here because successive London Councils have used Hastings and suburbs (and other coastal towns of the S.E.) as 'overspill' for some of their problem families who they wish to move on because they were living in otherwise valuable areas of that City.
Hastings is quite 'zonal' with poor but decent families down some streets with more affluent ones in their own places.
Locals generally don't pass judgement on others and accept them for what they are
I always get a wave and a smile from friendly neighbours every day and find them relaxed and welcoming if you take the time to say hello in the first place.
It is easy to be snobbish about the amount of overweight people feeding their kids at local chain burger and chip shops - but that has to be addressed by making them more aware of the dangers
How to do this is difficult as poor people will always look for cheap (and probably unhealthy) food.
Also the shops selling such fast food have to do this (like the coffee houses) as business is business, in these difficult times and no one else can survive the current economic climate
Having said all that, the air quality is still wonderful, the views still magnificent and the walks and atmosphere unbeatable
