I wonder if anyone could help?
I am due to holiday in Hastings in July and I want to find an old convalescent home my mum lived in when she was a little girl.
She thinks it was in a place called Castledown near the seafront but I can only find Castledown Avenue on the map.
Anyone know if this place still exisits as I would love to take some photos and get some information for mum? It would have been about 50-55 years ago now.
Many thanks,

Castledown Convelescent Home ??
Re: Castledown Convelescent Home ??
Hello Lynne, I too am seeking info regarding a convalescent home in the 1950's. Mine was a convent run by St Vincent de Paul nuns, but it was up on the hill at St.Leonards, and overlooking the sea. Any help?

There was a Castledown House in Castledown Avenue but looking through my Kelly's Directories as far back as 1925 I can find no indication that this was anything other than a private house..

There was a St.Vincent 's Open Air School in St Saviour's Road,St Leonards, this overlooks the sea,I am not sure but I think it is now closed and turned into a Computer Centre,Adult Education.
Re: Castledown Convelescent Home ??
i am researching family history and find that Edward Longdon Mackmurdo sold the house in 1886 to a Mr Clare. Not relevant but interesting.
