I am interested in finding info on the Castle Hotel built around 1818 by Mark(?) Breeds and leased to a Mr Everett. Anyone know where I can look?

The Local History group at the Museum at Summerfields will be able to help you..They are not there every day so it is best to phone the Museum to find out when you can go there.

Re: The Castle Hotel
Our history page states The Castle Hotel stood at the entrance to Wellington Square from the seafront and was built in 1817.
Any more info I can add would be greatly appreciated.

Re: The Castle Hotel
The Castle hotel was the second best in town,I worked there as a young waiter in 1957,it was then owned by the Shields family.During this time many Cricket teams stayed they, the West Indians,I can remember serving Sir Gary Sobers more than once.It had two dinning rooms, two bars and its own ballroom. At Christmas time it was always the same families that stayed there.
Later it became the first site for Tescos.

Didn't there used to be a small Tescos around the corner from the Castle Hotel?? about where Sussex Stationers or Mac Ds is. Seem to remember waiting by the Castle Hotel as a kid while my Mum shopped there.
