Hi Chris. The Hastings Pier debacle is a real hot potato. Best place to read about it is on the Hastings Today pages online. Think you can find it at www.Hastingstoday.co.uk, scroll down and theres a whole section detailing why the pier is currently closed and the in fighting which is stopping it being repaired and reopened. I just wish the ownders and coucil would get the differences sorted and let thge pier open its gates and start tradaing again. It must have been dreadful for all the traders who have lost their lively hood.

I absolutely agree with you Chris. I love Hastings, but the council have always disregarded architectural history in favour of modern (crass) development. Next time your down, be sure to view the Hastings Observer building in Cambridge road, its a gem, but the council are going to demolish it before long. and, the Ice House at Rock a Nore. It's a piece of history, but it's going to be knocked down to make way for a resturant, Yates or something.
Sorry, don't be put off by these comments. there's so many good postive reasons to move here. I suppose the council would call it progress, demolishing beautiful old buildings for the land space, i call it corporate vadelism.
Drop us a line nearer the time you're visiting. Do you have a home yet?? I work in property. drop me a line if you need advice?
