Areas to avoid??

I would echo the sentiments above.

Perhaps the question should be: What are they trying to avoid?

The noise of traffic can be avoided to a certain extent.
The noise of Trains ditto.
Over developed housing can be avoided.
Areas with no greenery can be avoided.
Areas with bad parking can be avoided.

But fortunately (or unfortunately for some) people cannot be avoided.

Glad to hear some positive things about the place. I'm about to move to St Leonards from Italy as I wanted to get away from the high level of crime here_ _ _I've been robbed 4 times, held up at gunpoint once, attacked in my car_ _ _I'm hoping I'm about to move to a somewhat more tranquil area! It certainly looked like it when I visited St Leonards last year.

I agree, Hastings and St.Leonards have a lot to offer vibrationally, with some great left-field energy and off centre creativity (just look at Marina's hat). Having worked with the drug addicts at Southwater Advice Centre and Addaction for several years I can also say that Hastings has some of the nicest drug addicts in the country. They have often offered to steal things to order for me from Debenhams for a very small fee. They have excellent personal hygiene and lots of interesting stories to tell. It is the chavs that you have to watch out for. If you don't go out on a Friday or Saturday nights there is a good chance you won't be beaten up. I would definately rather live in Hastings than live in prison or have my legs needlessly amputated just for some wierd bet at the end of a mad stag night.

Morning all, I couldn't find a place to introduce myself before diving in with a post so I'll say hello to everyone here. Just moved to the area a few months ago into temp. housing in a relative's house and we're now looking for something else. I have a budget of up to GBP700pcm and need a 3 bed house or decent size flat.
I've seen a few places come onto the market in Stonefield Road - I went to look at one of these but was pleased to pass on it (not very nice at all shall we say) but this leads me to a more general question. Can anyone give me an opinion on Stonefield Road and that area in general? We're a family of 4 with kids aged 9 and 11 and two family dogs (Parson Russell Terriers).

Some friends of mine live there and they seem to like it. They lived in St Leonards for a while and chose to move back to Hastings as they felt a bit out of things. Personally I prefer St Leonards.

Great info, many thanks, I've also looked at the thread you suggested, that's exactly the sort of feedback I was looking for.
Currently we're in Silverhill (St Matthews Gardens) which is very nice but as I mentioned, only temp, I'd like to stay around Silverhill but our budget is very tight at the moment.

If you want what is best for your bearns I would suggest renting somewhere within the catchement area of a good school.

Try searching 'ere:

and once you have found your school then look for an 'ouse.

Thanks Herring Gull, actually we managed to get the schools question sorted out before we arrived here (been living abroad for 19 years), daughter is at Helenswood and son is at Silverdale, both seem pretty decent schools and the kids are settled in well.
