I have put in an offer on a house in the above road. It was a bit hasty as I've only just moved to the area. The house is opposite Morrisons. I know it's a busy road but does anyone know of any problems in that area?
Would just like to say how impressed I am with Hastings. I love it. Even if the house is a mistake, I know I've chosen the best possible place to live - no doubts about that.

Buying a house in Waterworks Road
Re: Buying a house in Waterworks Road
Drove down there to Morrisons the other day and spotted the one with the for sale sign. As far as I know it's a pleasant little road right in town. Other than the obvious traffic I think it's a good place to live.

This house is in a very busy part of town. As long as you don't mind the shoppers, the pubs letting out and the traffic, it's a great central location. Hastings does have its share of rowdies and the city centre locations suffer as a consequence. You have picked a fabulous place to live. Hope you're here for the Wine and Seafood festival this weekend. Remember, there's lots of real estate to choose from.

Thanks for that Cherly and Magdelene
Very good advice. Am looking foward to moving now. I just think the whole thing is stressful and a completely independent opinion is always needed. At least I won't have far to go for my cream cakes now.
I will be around for the festival and hope to have a winkle or two over the weekend.
Best wishes

Barmcake - I just remembered something. The Britannia Enterprise Centre (the little group of buildings on the right at the end of your street) is owned by the Council. There is a strong rumour, and it is just a rumour, that the Council is trying to evict the man who leases the centre, because the Council wants to develop this very valuable piece of real estate (put up a high rise or two). I am involved with one of the orgnisations in Britannia and we are making contingency plans just in case. If this happens there will be terrible disruption in Waterworks Road. Maybe your solicitor can do some sleuthing.
Best wishes

Re: Buying a house in Waterworks Road
Thanks a million. I definitely need to look into this before I proceed. The back of the house is dark already and if high rises went up behind, it would be miserable. I love to sit out in the sun, and wouldn't fancy being overlooked. It would also seriously reduce the price if I wanted to sell. I was going to instruct my solicitor today but having read this will have another think. As Cherly said, there's lots of real estate out there. The vendor is such a nice lady, and would l feel awful about withdrawing, but when you put your life savings into something, it's got to be thought through very carefully - more carefully than I have done. This is why forums like this can be a life saver. Thank you VERY much.

Re: Buying a house in Waterworks Road
Have just been to see the Planning Officer. You were right. The plans show one high rise with a car park and garden. Unfortunately it means I will be overlooked but not completely overshadowed (at least I hope not). This has to go through one final level of planning permission. They also told me that the current children's play area is being demolished and a new children's centre built. It's a gamble in other words.
I am asking my solicitor to do extra searches. I hope things work out for you and the plans do not disrupt too many lives. Things never stay the same for long in this world.

Barmcake - well done to see the Planning Officer. Don't feel bad about the vendor. You have to think about your own needs in a situation like this. Lots of luck to you. Cheryl
