Silvana, let me know how you get on - I was thinking of Warrior Square as an alternative to The Marina if that doesn't pan out.
We could get an Old Teachers Group going just from this thread!

Re: Planning to move to the area on retirement
Hello Silver Fox. I'm told Warrior Square itself can be a bit iffy in the evenings. However, someone else said it was on its way to being up and coming. My new flat is a couple of streets off to the side and the area looks pretty peaceful to me!
I was born in Poplar you know and was brought up in Essex_ _ _we therefore have two things in common! Worked in central London for most of my working life. I've spent the last 12 years in Italy living and working on the coast between Naples and Sorrento. And now here I am on my way to "San Leonardo al mare"!

Warrior Square was allegedly the place where you went to buy drugs, but has now been restored to it's orginal purpose, I have been there at night without problems. There is also an Alcohol ban in most public parks, on the beach and dogs have to be kept on leads in most public places. It is the most impressive Victorian Square that I have seen on the South Coast but it received several bombs in the last war which is why it is no longer completely original.
It is the focal point of the St Leonards Festival see here https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/St-Le ... 2197428649 and there is a Facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=80202707761
Unless you are living at the North end which receives sun all day you will get only morning or afternoon sun depending on which side you live. It is less exposed to costal winds but does get the Northerly winds which Marina does not as it is protected by Cliffs It is very convenient for local shops, Doctors, Dentists, Solicitors, Station etc. and is an easy and pleasant walk into Hastings, I LOVE it!

Not so much of the retired 'old' teachers group silver fox, we are the new 50's
If we could find the energy and use our combined experience then we could start a workshop here for the local kids, they are in desperate need of help and stimulation. Hastings has recently been named as the 19th most deprived area in the UK, it has many problems yes but I have not yet seen the evidence to support this. It has more 'get up and go' than I have experienced in any London Borough, it must be the 'Sea Air'.
It is the most 'Positive' and 'Energetic' place that I have lived in for a very long time, but it does need some help.

Silvana - I was born and live for most of my years in Plaistow and East Ham!
Alex4art, I'm planning to come down for the day during the second Easter week, and will have a wander around the sea front, and the local area to begin to get a feel of the place.
Roll on two years time.
